Spray Foam Insulation Cost Edmonton

We do not quote spray foam over the phone, because three of the four things that move the number cannot be seen from a phone call.

What Actually Drives the Number

Four things move a spray foam quote more than anything else: the area being covered, the installed thickness the assembly requires, which product it needs, and how hard the space is to work in. A wide open attic with good access is straightforward. A tight space, a roof line full of complicated framing, or an attic packed with ductwork takes longer for the same square footage. Anyone quoting without seeing the space is guessing at three of those four.

Why Closed Cell Costs More Than Open Cell

Closed cell uses more material per unit of volume, is denser, and delivers a higher R-value per inch along with vapour control and added rigidity. Open cell expands much further from the same quantity, which makes it cheaper to fill a given cavity. The two are not interchangeable, so the honest comparison is not price per board foot but which one the assembly actually requires — and in Alberta that answer is closed cell more often than it is elsewhere.

Removal Is a Separate Line, and It Should Be

Where existing insulation has to come out first, that is slow dirty work and the easiest item to bury inside a larger number. It should appear as its own line so you can see what the clean-out costs against what the new insulation costs. If the existing material is sound and can stay, a contractor with nothing to hide will tell you that rather than quoting the clean-out anyway.

What a Written Scope Should Contain

The product, the installed thickness, and exactly which areas are covered. What happens to the existing material. Who does the work. What happens to attic ventilation if a roof line is being sealed. A quote that says "insulate attic" with a number beside it gives you nothing to compare against anyone else's and nothing to hold anyone to afterwards.

Questions

Common questions

Can you give me a price over the phone?

No, and nobody honest can. Three of the four things that drive the number have to be seen. The on-site estimate is free and there is no obligation.

Is spray foam worth it compared with batts?

It depends what is wrong with the building. Where air movement is the fault, foam addresses it and batts do not. Where the assembly simply needs more R-value in easy open cavities, batts may be the better value and we will say so.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes, and it is free whether or not you go ahead.
